Apulia, the white city of Ostuni & the Paragon 700

Apulia, or Puglia in Italian, is an enchanting region in south-east Italy, known for its picturesque coastlines, historic towns and culinary delights. The region stretches along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas and offers a rich variety of landscapes and cultural treasures. One of the most fascinating cities in Puglia is Ostuni, often referred to as "the white city".

Ostuni: the white city

Ostuni, the white city, is located on three hills in the province of Brindisi. The name "white town" comes from the characteristic whitewashed houses in the old town centre, which are arranged in a labyrinth of narrow, winding alleyways. This tradition, which dates back to the Middle Ages, was originally used to keep the houses cool and keep insects at bay.

Historic charm and architecture

Ostuni is known for its impressive architecture, which bears witness to different eras and influences. The cathedral of Ostuni, a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture, towers majestically over the city. Its façade is richly decorated and the interior contains elaborate frescoes and religious artefacts.

The city walls and gates, which once served as protection against invaders, are still well preserved today and offer visitors an insight into the turbulent history of the region. Particularly noteworthy is the Arco Scoppa, an elegant arch that spans Via Cattedrale and divides the historic centre into two parts.

The Hotel Paragon 700

A gem in the centre of this historic city, Hotel Paragon 700 is a luxurious boutique hotel housed in a magnificent 18th century palace, offering a perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort. The elegant rooms and suites are individually designed and reflect the rich history and culture of the region.

Das Paragon 700 has an enchanting garden with a pool that offers an oasis of peace and relaxation in the centre of the city. The hotel's restaurant serves exquisite dishes that combine the culinary traditions of Puglia with creative, modern touches. The excellent service and luxurious amenities make a stay at the Paragon 700 an unforgettable experience.

Culinary delights

Ostuni and the Apulia region are also a paradise for gourmets. The cuisine is based on fresh, local ingredients such as olive oil, vegetables, fish and seafood. A typical speciality is "orecchiette", a type of pasta that is often served with turnip greens ("cime di rapa"). The wines from the region, such as the powerful Primitivo and the elegant Negroamaro, are also highly prized by connoisseurs.

Nature and surroundings

The area surrounding Ostuni also offers numerous opportunities for nature and outdoor enthusiasts. The nearby beaches of the Adriatic Sea are famous for their crystal-clear water and fine sandy beaches. The Torre Guaceto nature reserve, a protected area with diverse flora and fauna, is an ideal place for hiking and birdwatching.
