Does an island have to be surrounded by the sea? We say no. An island can also be embraced by tranquil greenery instead of blue waters—like Küglerhof, the retreat of Karoline Diltz in South Tyrol, which feels more like an extended living room than a hotel.
It’s stylish. And cozy. A place where you can linger all day, letting time flow naturally. No ocean required. Just a pool.

We sit comfortably—what kind of chairs are these? And where can I buy that beautiful vase? Ask Edith. Karoline’s mother, once the owner of an interior design store, curates the décor and style here. And Karoline! She shares stories about the contemporary art in the house, like the works of Christian Martinelli, a photographer whose images capture fleeting moments and a certain mood—just like the atmosphere at Küglerhof.

Our eyes wander—here and there—catching glimpses of a church tower, vineyards, a bird, the mountains.
Time for a small plate of pasta—after all, we are in Italy. A glass of vino to accompany it, and by now, strangers have become friends. The hosts join in, the music plays, and we chat about tonight’s grill evening and film selection.
As night falls, we gather around the long table. First, a social barbecue, then an outdoor movie night beneath the starry sky.
And to close the day? Fusettone. What’s that? A bitter aperitif with grapefruit soda on ice.
