The view from the "floor to ceiling" windows is simply stunning. If you do not book on time and are left with a northbound room, you can still cuddle into the bedsheets with the no less spectacular sight of the 4,545 meter high mountain Cathedral. Mountains as far as the eye can reach. Zermatt is surrounded by 38 four-thousand-metre peaks.
The 30 rooms and suites of the Matterhorn FOCUS are spread over three interconnected buildings. In 2008 Christian and Sonja Noti built the Design Hotel with a top location directly at the valley ski lift station of the "Matterhorn glacier paradise". In the beginning two houses were planned, but unexpectedly, a third was added. This was left in its original state, but has recently been adapted to the other two buildings. So it stands, like its sister houses, with a great wooden facade, spacious balconies and a stone roof of Valais natural stone. The design is straight and timeless, the well-known artist and architect Heinz Julen is responsible for this. Pieces of furniture and accessories designed by the artist provide the exclusive and yet very homelike atmosphere.
Chandeliers with pearl necklaces set in glass cases meet polished wooden tables in the modern breakfast room. In the lounge area photographs and accessories from the alpine world pay tribute to the impressive mountains of Valais. The crackling log fire invites you to linger. Maybe with a cocktail from the hotel bar. Even the spa leaves nothing to be desired with an indoor pool and outdoor whirlpool, Finnish sauna, caldarium and brine bath. The typical sports massages are offered as well as Lomi Lomi or Hot Stone.
In Zermatt with its glacier ski area you can trace your trails into the snow 365 days a year. But the winter season is of course very special for skiers. The Matterhorn Focus Design Hotel is located directly at the valley ski lift station "Matterhorn Express". 360 perfectly well-prepared slopes are waiting to be discovered. "We have many international guests. Again and again we have guests who are only used to ski in a hall. When they ski down the hillside for the first time and feel the wind on their faces they are simply blown away", says Patrizia Gasser.
